CopyFi vs eToro

These two solve the same wish — trade like someone better — with opposite architectures. One holds your money and mirrors. The other never touches your money and filters.

The one-sentence version

eToro is a place you move your money to; copying is one of the things you can do there. CopyFi never takes your money at all — it sends rule-filtered trades into an exchange account you already control.

What eToro does well

It is a regulated broker with everything under one roof: deposits, a social feed, stocks and ETFs alongside crypto, and a copy button that works in minutes. For someone who wants one app and no setup, that convenience is real. Its CopyTrader mirrors your chosen trader proportionally, and a stop-loss on the copy caps how far a bad run can go.

Where the mirror model stops

Mirroring is faithful by design — including to decisions you would not have made. The trader raises their leverage, you raise yours. They concentrate into one position, so do you. Your controls are the amount you allocated and the stop on the relationship; between those two points, their judgment is your judgment. The mechanics are covered in what copy trading is and what it does not fix.

What CopyFi changes

CopyFi puts your rules between the signal and your account: which traders you accept, how much size, a leverage ceiling, and stop conditions that halt everything. You assemble those rules from visual blocks, no code, and the resulting model drives your own exchange or broker account. Custody never moves — API keys carry read and trade permissions only, never withdrawal. The full argument is on the non-custodial page.

Where CopyFi is behind

Two things, and neither is small. eToro is a regulated broker in several jurisdictions, with the investor-protection schemes that come with that status. CopyFi is a tool: it holds no licence, holds no funds, and offers no such scheme — the protection it gives you is that there is nothing of yours for us to lose, which is a different thing entirely. And eToro spans stocks, ETFs and crypto with Popular Investor records going back years, while CopyFi executes on Phemex today, with other venues planned, over a smaller trader database.

Choose eToro if

  • You want one regulated app holding everything, including stocks and ETFs.
  • You are fine inheriting a trader’s decisions one-to-one, with a stop on the copy.
  • You value zero setup over control.

Choose CopyFi if

  • You already have an exchange or broker account and intend to keep custody there.
  • You want your own sizing, leverage ceiling and stops applied before any order fires.
  • You want to test the whole setup against market data before real money moves.

Neither tool guarantees anything. Trading involves risk, past performance does not guarantee future results, and CopyFi makes no investment recommendations.
