Connect your AI assistant to your trading account

An assistant that can see your actual trades gives better answers than one guessing from a screenshot. The CopyFi connector lets it read your account over MCP, and gives it no way to change anything.

What this connection is

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets an AI assistant use tools outside the chat window. CopyFi runs an MCP server. Connect Claude, ChatGPT or any client that speaks MCP to it, and your assistant can read your CopyFi account alongside whatever else it already has access to.

The practical difference is that you stop pasting screenshots. Ask a question about your trading, and the assistant answers from your actual sessions and trades rather than from what you remembered to tell it.

What your assistant can read

  • Your sessions, and which trader and strategy each one copies
  • Your wallet, open PnL and realised PnL
  • Positions your exchange currently holds
  • Your closed trades, with entry, exit and result
  • Deposits and withdrawals
  • Traders available to copy, and their published results
  • Why an order was skipped

What it cannot do

  • Start, stop or change a session
  • Place, close or cancel an order
  • Move money, or see your exchange API keys
  • Reach any account but yours

This is not a policy the assistant is asked to respect. The connector simply has no tools that change anything, so there is no request, however it is phrased, that can open a position or move a dollar. That matters more than it sounds: an assistant can be misled by instructions hidden in a web page or a document it reads, and a read-only connection is the kind that stays safe when that happens.

Connecting it

  1. Create a token in the app, one per assistant, so you can disconnect one without disconnecting the others.
  2. Copy it straight away. A token is shown once. CopyFi stores only a fingerprint of it and cannot show it again; if you lose it, revoke it and make another.
  3. Give your assistant two things: the server address, https://app.copyfi.ai/api/v1/mcp, and the token as a bearer token.
  4. Use a client that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP. Claude Desktop and Claude Code do, and other clients work the same way.

Questions worth asking it

  • “Compare my last twenty trades against the traders I could be copying.”
  • “Why was this order skipped?”
  • “Which of my sessions carries the most open risk right now?”
  • “Summarise my realised PnL by session for this month.”

The first is the one we suggest in the app, and it is the most useful: your own record, set against the alternatives, without anyone’s marketing in between.

What to keep in mind

  • Correct data, wrong conclusion. An assistant reading accurate numbers can still misread them. Check any figure it quotes before acting on it.
  • Ask what it looked at. When it compares you against other traders, ask how many traders and how many months of history it actually used. A conclusion drawn from a sample is only as good as the sample.
  • Your assistant’s provider sees what it reads. Whatever the assistant reads from your account is processed by the AI provider you use, under their terms.
  • Reading is not advice. An analysis of your account is not a recommendation, from the assistant or from CopyFi.

Letting an assistant study your account is different from letting a model decide your orders. That second feature exists too, with limits the model cannot cross: see AI copy trading on CopyFi. And before trusting any tool sold as AI, run it through six questions that separate real AI from automation.

Questions people ask

Can my AI assistant place trades through the connector?

No. The connection is read-only. The tools to start a session, place an order or move money do not exist on the connector, so no request your assistant makes can change anything.

Does the assistant see my exchange API keys?

No. It can read your sessions, positions, trades and wallet, but never your exchange API keys.

Which AI assistants work with it?

Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT, and any client that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP. Each one needs the server address and its own token.

How do I disconnect an assistant?

Revoke its token in the app. Each assistant gets its own token, so revoking one leaves the others connected.

Trading involves risk. Past performance does not guarantee future results, and CopyFi makes no investment recommendations.
